Hi,

I have Arcserve 2000 AE SP4 running on Win2k with all the updates. Basically, when a backup job has run the database manager fails to log in meaning when I start arcserve after a job the database engine has to start, and starts no problem.
It is never still on after the backup job. This was working fine before and also was fine along time after any changes to the server were made.

I have reloaded sp4 with no effect and I am considering uninstalling/reloading the entire product but thought I would ask for a solution as that is a real pain.

Also the support article on CA about folder permissions is bollocks. Any takers?

Thank you,

Normally, CA's article will fix your database login problem. It's either user security, folder security, disk space or your computer name.

Has your backup server changed names since your install. If so, you need to fix the rname envirnoment under my computer.

Good luck,
Debi

Hi Debijo,

Thanks for answering, disk space is not a problem as I have at least 3gb free. I have checked out the folder security and the Arcserve account has full control all the way down.

What is the rname thing that you mentioned there, what is that all about?

Thanks,

RNNAME is registered node name and the value it should point your server name. It is is pointing to a different name then change the value and this will require a reboot to take effect...

Or i would suggest you to delete RNNAME & reboot the server .. I had this problem before and this is how CA helped me... DatabaseBaba...

Thanks DatabaseBaba

But where can I find rname? In the registry? I just looked but I could not find it.

Thanks again
