I am trying to share a database file over a network, I keep getting the above message.

I need 2 users to be able to enter data at the same time on the same file, is it possible

Not on the same record, but it should be possible for two to enter on different records at the same time. What file type is this? Does this always happen, or only when they are on the same record?

Thanks for the reply

I have 2 Machines connected with a crossover Cable PC 1 and PC 2

The Access file is on PC 1, The drive that the file is on Shared to PC 2

I can open the File on PC 1 (No Problems, Add, Delete etz)

When I open the file on PC 2, I get the following message

"Could Not Lock File".

If I close the file on PC 1 and Open it from PC2, I am getting the following message

The Database is read only.

Allow the shared directory to be writable.

Hope This Helps, PH.

I really am a novice

I have right clicked on the Drive and went to properties.

How do I Allow the shared directory to be writable?

Thanks

Go to the directory where the db is. Right click the folder. Go to properties. Select the security tab. click the advanced tab. Click Find all. Doubleclick the user from the second computer. Click okay. make sure "write" is included in the permissions for that user now in the list.

Try again.

Google will probably reveal a pictoral tutorial for this.
