When I connect to goldmine by cliking the icon on my desktop (from the Goldmine Server) I can access the database and everything is OK.

When I copy the the icon from a mapped drive onto a client machine, I cannot open the database on the goldmine server and get the following message:-

-----------------------------------------------------------

What does this message mean, can anyone help????
It's worth 6 Pints!!!

Hi

Sounds like the client machine does not have the BDE alias configured. I suspect that the sever is using a local congfig file and so is the client workstation. You can check this by opening the registry on the client PC and
checking the location in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Borland

If the values point to c:\ then you need to change this to the server, delete the entire borland key.

On the server GM will usually install two BDEs, one to c:\program files\borland\common files\bde and another to
..\goldmine\setup\bdeshare.

Your GoldMine installation should use the BDE config in ..\goldmine\setup\bdeshare so that any changes only have to be done once and propagate out to workstations.

Run GoldMine on the server, goto Help menu, select About and click on the [System] button. Check the line BDE DLL files, If the BDE is pointing to c:\program files\..etc then do the following

1. Select Open Configuration from the Object menu
2. Browse to ..\goldmine\setup\bdeshare and open the idapi32.cfg
3. Check under the Database tab if the Goldmine_Ops alias exists,
4. If it does, exit Borland and when it prompts to use the new config select Yes
5. If it doesn't then Select Merge Configuration from the Object Menu
6. Browse to the original location, c:\program files\borland\common files\bde and select the idapi32.cfg file.
7. Merge the files so that the alias in the original file is now in the config file held in the \BDESHARE\ folder.
8. Exit BDE and when it prompts to use the new config select Yes

Add the following line to the GM.ini file in the GoldMine folder, ensuring the path is correct for your install.

netidapi32dll=\\servername\goldmine\bdeshare\idapi32.dll

Run GoldMine on the server, goto Help | About and click on the System button. Check the line BDE DLL files. This should now point to ..\setup\bdeshare
Run GoldMine on the client PC, hopefully GM will now run

Thanks for your replies. Solved the problem, which was all to do with the cfg file, it was pointing at the wrong one, so copy and pasted the cfg file off the Goldmine server to the correct directory.
