I recently converted an Access 2.0 Database to Access 97 (8.0). The Operating system was also converted to Windows 98
and the server to Novell 3.2. Since this conversion I have
had a few serious problems. When printing reports I sometimes get Windows protection errors. Also more seriously the database completely corrupted itself, not even allowing a repair to be performed, it had to be restored from a backup. Before this happened the error message :

Unrecognized database format <filename>. (Error 3343)

appeared a few times, then finally a windows protection error before the database killed itself.

I was wondering if the problem is Novell 3.2 / Windows 98
related. The application sits on the server and is run from the client PC's.

Thanks.

I've also had quite a few experiences with Access 97 databases corrupting on the network. I don't know if we are dealing with one cause or many.

Trial and error has led me to suspect that the problem sometimes has something to do with a conflict between Access macros and some antivirus programs installed on the network. When I disabled the virus software (Real Monitor in this case) on my PC after logging on and ran my macros locally (posting the updated database back to the network) everything worked fine. But if I worked on a network drive or refreshed locally without disabling the virus software on my PC, the same databases frequently corrupted (although never on the first run).
