Database corruption

I know my database is corrupted and most likely I will have to start from scratch with a new database as none of the maintenance programs will fix the problem. I have read most of the posts dealing with Database corruption, but I still have some questions.

Background first:

DBCHECK works and states that I have some missing keys in the asobject.000 file. I have tried to re-build the keys using keybuild but get "Failed to start keybuild for database asobject: error -6003". I have tried dbfix and receive similar error "Failed to start repairing process for database asobject : error -6003"

I cannot initialize the databse as I get the same error. The only thing I can find about the error is that you should make sure that you do not have the Manager GUI open. It was not open when I tried these commands. I have rebooted the server more than once. Error is still there.

I have run maintenance on the database often. This is first time I have had a problem correcting anything.

So since nothing works, I guess I will have to stope the database engine, move my old database files to another directory. Install ARCSERVE on another machine to get new clean database files. Copy the new files back to server database directory. Restart database engine on server.

Now finally my questions:

- Will I have to create my media pools again?
- Will I have to create my jobs again?

Or will that info still be there?

Thanks for any help.

OK, Since I posted this I have contacted CA via email. Tech sent me to a FTP site where I downloaded an empty database. So I wiped out my old databse and copied the "blank" one in. I loaded up tapes to get my media pools back. Jobs are Ok. Backup ran OK last night and even staged properly.

HOWEVER, I still could not run any maintenance other than DBCHECK. DBCKECK shows no errors. However when I run any other maintenace such as DBFIX, KEYBUILD, I received the same
"Failed to start keybuild for database asobject: error -6003" or "Failed to start repairing process for database asobject : error -6003"

I even tried to Initialize even though the database is small now. I received the same error about something being open.

I did find a file RecoveryAction.dat in C:\Program Files\CA\Brightstor Arcserve Backup that was huge. It is supposed to be a temporary file that occurs when you have Database access problems which I did. But it is supposed to go away.

I contacted CA and they said to delete the file. I found out that I had to first CSTOP in order to delete it.

That fixed my maintenace problem. If I had deleted it before, I probably could have fixed my database.

I still have a copy of the old database, but I don't think I want to risk using it.

This might help others in the future.
