Hi guys!

What's the best way to get a database and/or tables that resides on the SQL Server 7 and copy it over to SQL2000 Server? I tried the backup/restore process (though that's not the best way to approach it), and it gave me an error upon restoring "The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'XXX' database. RESTORE DATASE is terminating abnormally." So what's the best way oof getting this COPIED over to SQL2000? I don't want to recreate a database with all those tables again.. Ouch! Help!! Thanks a bunch to those who can help here!

Have you tried detaching the DB using sp_detach_db and then reattching it on the SS2K side w/ a sp_attach_db?

Thanks

If you are after a copy ... after the sp_detach_db, copy the MDF and LDF to their new location and then run sp_attach_db.

Thanks

JayKsuch,

Isn't there another way? Especially a way that I can still keep the database/table still running and not have to re-attach it? I just need a copy so i can burn onto cd and copy it to the SQL2K. Hmm... my msdb is set to replication, so i can't detach it. Then again, all I need is a copy of those selected databases. Err.. Any other solution?

Thanks though!

Gwond3r,

Backup the required database(s) to a backup device on the destination server and restore from there.
