I created a duplicate database for another user. While I was gone for two weeks, she went in and used it normally. Yesterday, when she opened it up, it told her that she couldn't modify anything--that it was read only. I tried going into it as well with the same result. I checked the properties, but read only isn't checked. She called the help desk, but no one can figure out why it did this. Any thoughts?
Linda Adams
Garridon@aol.com
<a href= Adams Online
I'm a professional writer, published internationally.

You have to determine if that's an Access message or OS message. If OS you can check to see if anything has been changed as far as your OS security or the OS file attributes. Here's a real ususual thing thats happened once to me in version 2.0 or 97. Turned out somehow the OS file attributes were reset to Read Only. If you just right click on the file you can check - only Archive should be checked. And here's the wierdest part only Archive was checked, but I had to turn it on, then turn it back off again. For some reason it was not displaying the actual status.

Check the properties for the form under Data, make sure the RecordSet Type is set to Dynaset, not snapshot.

It looks like it's a network problem. The database is stored in a shared directory. I copied back onto my hard drive, and it worked just fine. Tried copying it back, and I got a copy error message (I tried copying other files; same thing). At least it's not the database itself!

Linda Adams
Garridon@aol.com
<a href= Adams Online
I'm a professional writer, published internationally.
