Hi,

I have been trying to compress my AS2000 database. The folder is now over a gig!! I have written the batch file from the tech sheet I found on CA web site, but it makes no difference. I runs fine and reports a 1%-3% effort on the databases. Has anyone found a better way of getting the database smaller?

Best wishes

Hi Bazcurtis;

The only way to pare down the ARCSERVE folder is to look at the log file called tape.log.

This is usually the offending file. I have seen no tech note or anything on CA's site that tells me how to keep that sucker under 1 meg in size yet.

However, there is a work around that I have tried, but do not recommend lightly.
Make sure that ARCSERVE is not running actively. Services are OK, but no active windows.
Make a new text file and call it Tape.log.new
In explorer go to your ARCSERVE folder and change the Tape.log file to tape.log.old.
Rename tape.log.new --> Tape.log
Restart the ARCSERVE software and I have had no problems so far. Tape.log seems to have nothing but text entries, so long as it has a new log file to write to it seems happy.
