I am in the market for a good database comparison and synchronization tool. I have read about the following tools thus far:

RedGate SQL Compare
DB SynchroComp
AdeptSQL Diff
ApexSQL Diff

Based on your personal experiences, what would be the best tool to buy for comparing both structure and data. Your recommendation does not have to be limited to the above list. I am looking for the best.

Thanks :)

Game Over, Man!

I have not used the others, but I couldn't live without SQLCompare. It's a good value for the money. You do have to intelligent about using it though. It will script the objects for the change that you tell it to and if you get them out of order (ie try to crete the related tbale forefore the parent table was created) then it will bomb. If one thing fails the whole transaction is rolled back which is nice and safer that anyother way, but still can be annoying when you are in a hurry.

Usually what I do is run the compare then check the differnces to see if I want to move the change. Then I select the tables first (and I'm generally familar enough withthe schema to know if I need to do this is parts to keep it from bombing. Then I do the views, Then I script the udfs. Then the SPS.

If one section bombs, I read the rror messages tofnd out which item it is bombing on and why so I can figure out how i need tochnge the request in order to make it work. I've found some obsolete objects this way because they won;t transfer to the other database if the dependent objects don't exist.

I hope this makes sense, I'm just sort of rambling on.

Questions about posting. See faq183-874
