Is there an easy way to save the database from the Maintenance Port on the MX?

Database yes, Voicemail no.

You need a serial communications application like procomm or hyperterminal with Kermit Protocol.

Same backup proceedure as on the EL/ML

Hard work often pays off after time, but laziness always pays off now.

Thanks. I have hyperterminal, but don't know how to use kermit...seems like there should be an easier way! Does FTP also use the serial link via hyperterminal?

FTP is a networking protocol. You need an active FTP server to receive the backup file from the Mitel via FTP transmission.

Thanks guys! I just thought there might be an easier way...the manual is not very clear on this procedure. I guess I'll fumble through...

Why can't you just do a basic FTP and backup to your PC?? It really can't me more simplier.

I agree. FTP backup to your local PC or laptop is like making duck soup;
Ingrediants: 1 duck, 1 pot of boiling water.

It's even covered in the Tech Handbook how to do it. (FTP backups, not how to make soup)

Yes, you will need to know just a little about TCP/IP and how to temporarily hardcode an IP address within the same subnet as the ICP on your laptop, and install any one of the half-dozen or so free FTP clients, but if you're unable to do just those most basic things with IP then how on God's green Earth did you get the 200 ICP installed and working to begin with?

By the way, I do not recommend ever making a backup of your voice mail because those saved messages quickly become stale, worthless messages after a day or so and you will have wasted a lot of time for nothing.

Thanks for your messages! Mitel installed our system and I am now trying to support it. I am more familiar with the Nortel Norstar family...

A Medium FTP Backup will backup users greetings and names but not stored messages. This can be very useful for a quick recovery.

Medium or Full FTP backups will stop the voicemail until the backup is complete so dont do them during the day.

Sorry meant to also say Full FTP Backups before upgrades are a must.

Don't come crying if you don't do one.
