Hey guys, I was just wondering, what software do you primarily use in Business Intelligence/Datawarehousing, and are their any significant cutbacks in any proposed projects

I have been involved in many DW, Data Mart, and BI projects. I have used SQL Server, Oracle, and DB2/UDB as databases. I have used various BI tools: Cognos, Microstrategy, Business Objects, MS Analysis (OLAP) Services, arcplan, Crystal, etc.

I have not yet noticed any cutbacks in DW/BI projects from a consultant point of view. I expect some rippling of the economic situation to affect budgets this year and next (assuming this is a short term adjustment or short recession).

I am primarily a MS BI developer and have used MS tools since SQL Server 2K. I have also used Cognos tools for about 4 years. Along with these I have been Exposed to Business Objects and Micro Strategies.

I feel that the economy makes BI a great oppertunity at this time. Companies are looking at how they can improve their position in the market and increase revenue. A lot of the BI projects I am aware of at this time which is a lot are being persued by Big Business. I would as a friend has recently found out avoid projects that are be backed with Venture Capital funds as these people tend to be impatient and typically want fast turn around.
