What is the best practice for applying security to data view web parts. I created one in frontpage 2003 that connects to a SQL Server database & I noticed that I can't secure the web part in the same way as the traditional web parts (readers, cross site groups, etc.) Also since I don't have WSS on the SQL server I can't use Windows Authentication in the query.

Any ideas?

as i am not a programmer but i think there is a way coders can use "impersionation".
download the latest SDK for more info on this.

i can be completey wrong in the answer to your question but hey, just trying to help out

I looked at impersonation in order to secure the query; however only SharePoint Portal Server supports impersonation on remote servers.

I ended up just putting the query webparts inside a webpart page that I created inside a document library. I then applied permissions to the document library. Lastly, I put a Page Viewer WebPart on the homepage of our Intranet which linked to my webpart page in the document library.

It is probably not the most elegant solution but it works. I would love to hear if anyone has a better solution.
