Data Vanishing - Can VSS Cause This?

We have just experienced a weird data loss where records have vanished from our SQL server?

I went to check on 'Previous Versions' to find there weren't any, and then found VSS has been failing and erroring in the Event Viewer for weeks.

Is it possible that issues with VSS would cause SQL to lose records?

If not what is causing it and how do I track it down?

Found the culprit, it was an erroneous cascade delete.

Though our support still company failed to monitor and ensure VSS was running correctly, so had no snapshots!
