Hello all,

I have an assignment that I am having a hard time finding material for. Here's the quesiton:

Search the Internet for information about major programming errors that have occured because data validation techniques were not used. Some of these may be Y2K-related and some may relate to other issues. Write a two-page summary of the problems and how they were resolved. Cite your sources.

So, I searched and searched and couldn't find any specific articles or documentation on this. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. Can anyone point me to a good article or two? Hopefully nodbody in here caused those MAJOR errors :)

Thanks for the help! This forum is great.

Don't know about others, but I think you will be hard pushed to find Y2K stuff, as it was such a non-event (though this of course is due to excellent programmers doing excellent work converting systems - try telling non-ITers that though and they will laugh you out of town.

There were no big problems in the UK as far as I know, just minor ones that were dealt with pretty quickly.

At my last place of work, we hit a Y2K problem about a year before date change - third party vendor nominal ledger software that contained a 4 byte data consisting of 9798, 9899 etc

Of course, as soon as the financial year moved around to 9900 - everything screwed up and crashed. It was a great laugh.

Took about 3 days to fix using batch sql to update the field value to a proper ccyy date.

Aah, those were the days.....mumble, mumble, bore you silly, in the old days, blah di blah di blah....
