Data type error in Enterprise but not Crystal XI

I have 5 variations of the same report automated in Enterprise.The data they use is several Excel sheets that only I can edit. They have OK run several times day for years. But now I am getting a 'data type error' in CE suggesting that a numeric field is text. This is not true, proved by the fact the same reports run from CR instead of CE are OK and the calculations on the said numeric field are fine.Have tried copying a CR working version of a report to CE again as a fresh report, but it won't work. I then recreated the table of data it doesn't like by importing the table into CR & exporting out to Excel and pasting over the old data. Now the CE reports fail for same reason, but on a different formula not using that table. Again, all work OK if run in CR , just not CE or InfoView.IT staff say nothing has changed with CE server/set up etc. Am at a total loss as to how a report can fail in CE but runs OK in CR.
