Hi,

I have ranks for people stored in a field by the date that they got the rank, i.e. 98/99/01/02 . In my report I need to translate the ranks into their text equivalents, i.e. 98 is rank A, 98/99 is rank B, 98/99/01 is rank C, etc. I know how to do this with static values, but I don't know what to do with the variables. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Thank you,
I. Kinal

Hi,

I would put a table with two text fields: The first is a rank containing your text (eg 98/99/01/02) as the primary key and the second is the text equivalent. Once all the data is entered in the table you can then set up your people table's rank field as a foreign key from the ranks table.
You can then use this in a query and join it and display the output quite easily.

Thanks for your response. However, the problem is that the data is variable - different people achieved their ranks in different years. I just know that this is the format of the data, and that the data contains numbers.
