Well, 3 hours of messing around and no luck. I de-installed SQL Server 2000 and Analysis Services. Reinstalled both products and applied SP3A.

I try to connect to the OLAP server in Analysis Services and it fails with:

Data Source Name is Too Long.

I edit the Repository connection string and the whole thing is about 3 lines of ?.

I remove the server and try to register and get the same thing each time. Any ideas?

Well I de-installed and carefully installed in this order:

SQL2000 Server original release
(reboot system)
SQL2000 Server SP 3A
(reboot)
SQL2000 Analysis Services original release
(reboot and confirm that it connects - it does)
SQL2000 Analysis Services SP 3A
(reboot and thank goodness it still connects)
Crystal Analysis 9 original release
(reboot and confirm that I can connect -yea!)
Crystal Analysis 9 SP 1
(reboot)

Also notice the other thread that comments that when connecting to an OLAP server like SQL2000, YOU DO NOT want to enter the username and password EVEN THROUGH it prompt for them. Just enter the caption and server name on the connection browser screen.
