Hi All,

I have a 2D line graph I am working on in Excel 07; it has four data series', two that show actual output, and the other two I have set up as a 'goal line' so that we can easily see how we are measuring up.

My y axis goes from 0-300, and the average data series for one of the data series fluxes from 163-189, and the goal line for it is set to 60; the goal line, however, shows at above the 250 mark, despite the data values being 60.

There are no formulas in the cells it is referencing and I have double and triple checked that the chart is referencing the data correctly. Sadly, even as you hover over the data points that on the chart area are listed in the 200's it show the point value is 60...

I've searched the MS Office help, but to no avail - any suggestions (screenshots and file attached)...

Thanks in advance,

I can't see screen shots here at work, so am guessing here ... have you changed the axis for that series to be Secondary axis?

Cheers, Glenn.

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.

Nope, checked it, all are set to plot on the primary axis...

jcrawford08,

It might be a good idea to put the screenshot(s) on Flickr or some other picture sharing site rather than mediafire, since MANY corporate firewalls, I'd imagine, are going to block access to it. I know mine does.

Do you have any of your series on a SECONDARY axis?

Nope, just double checked, all are set to primary, no secondaries to be found...

I added the goal setting recently to the existing graph, and so I'm half tempted to ditch the whole thing and start over, but it's aggravating to see it come to that...

Plus, I want to know why in the world it isn't displaying what it says it's displaying... argh :)

You might want to look into Stacked Column Charts. I was trying to find how I helped a department here at work with dealing with some ways of charting that aren't directly/obviously supported solely within Excel.

I found this guy's site:

And I think we ended up doing a variation of stacked bar charts to cover what was needed. I just can't find anything to be absolutely certain. Also, Andy Pope has been mentioend in these very forums before in regards to Excel charts, best I recall.

Actually, he's a member here, just not a very active one, going by his member listing page:

Regardless, has some good stuff on his site about Excel charts.

Otherwise, you could try some searching on stacked bar charts.

There are several LINE chart types.

Is your set as a STACKED LINE? That is probably NOT the one you need.

AWESOME!

That did it - Thank you!

I do, however, question the validity of ever needing to utilize the stacked line approach...

Stacked, when you have sub groups like fruit and you are not necessarily comparing values but considering how they might compare to the aggregate.

Alright - it might prove useful, just not to me right now :)

Sorry if I led you off a wrong direction there. I started thinking about the stacked solution when I read this part of the original post:

I honestly didn't take much time in reading it.

No, you're fine; I actually took your advice for another chart in my workbook, so thank you!

There are definitely situations where the traditional line graph just doesnt do the data the proper justice :)
