Prompted by another thread. General observations more than anything addressed to the OP of that thread: For what I've seen in data processing shops, data preservation is a common practice - in the shops I've seen (mainframe), it isn't uncommon to keep anywhere from 12-36 generations of the data as backup (depending on how frequent the process). Since this is a good topic, I might go ahead and ask - what is the general practice for data retention at most of the shops you've worked at?
FWIW, the tool we used for handling this was part of the OS assign, and the file group as a whole was called a Generational Data Group (GDG). I happened to think too, it might be an interesting project to rig up a similar facility that would work in Delphi for matters such as this. Might try it sometime
