I cannot access my external, USB, Maxtor drive. It doesn't show in Windows Explorer and Computer Management reports it as unallocated. Maxtor says I have to let OnTrack recover it. Anyone know any other options? I need to get to this data quickly.

BTW, the backup is not recent.

Myself also experinced similar kind of problem which all my usb devices could not be detected. You know what, it happened that I accidently turn off the usb device detection in BIOS!

Thanks for the reply. But the USB is okay. Other devices work okay plugged into the USB. Also Device Manager shows that the PC recognizes the Maxtor drive. The drive also displays in the Safely Remove Hardware box. But whatever is needed to read the data is missing/unreadable/erased. File Allocation Table?

Can you remove the HDD from the USB box, and run it as an internal slave? It's just a standard IDE drive.

I'll try to do that. I also tried the free Ontrack software and Restorer2000 software, both returned the message Error Scanning Drive.
