Hello

I have a quick question regarding a data reader for SharePoint. My client has documents in their document library, that they want their customers and others to be able to VIEW on the site only. They want it so that the files CANNOT be downloaded or sent electronically. Kind of something like Adobe where the copy/paste, print, save as capabilities are taken away. Not sure if SharePoint offers something like this out of the box, or maybe there is a 3rd party vendor that works closely with them that provides such a tool? Any help would be great!

Thanks
Mark

I would upgrade your Boss from 1.0 to 2.0

Seriously, what type of files are in your library ?
why do they want them not to be downloadable or emailed ?

Because they are private documents only that are in regards to governement regulated business.

If any of them are Excel docs and you are using MOSS Enterprise, you can use Excel Services to do a lot of this. It is supposed to be a secure way to publish speadsheets read-only. You can take away the print buttons, the users don't see the formulas etc..

The problem with anything like this is that there is no "true" way to prevent users from getting the information if they really want it. They can use screen scraping software / take screenshots / type it by hand / even take a picture of their screen with a camera if they really wanted it

Just to echo cmv131 , hence my first comment , if you are putting it online and someone wants it, they can get it

Yea, the main concern isn't with actually getting the info, because they will be able to view it anyway. They just don't want it to be easily gotten and dispersed. They want the user to HAVE to go to the website to get the info every time.
