Data on Access 2000 Form not updateable

After setting up my tables and querying my data, I set up a form to show each subject, but am unable to update any data on the form. The tables has columns for each data type I wish to update. The query shows that the data field for that type is empty. How do I get Access to allow me to update the data on the form, without having to go to my tables?
