Hi,

I believe there are 3 main methodologies / approaches for data mining: DMAIC (Six Sigma), SEMMA (SAS), and CRISP (consortium).

I've been reading the book by Berry & Linhoff "Data Mining Techniques for Marketing Sales and Customer Support (2004)" and there is no mention of any of DMAIC, SEMMA or CRISP.

Berry & Linhoff identify an 11 stage methodology - I'm not sure if this is based on the 3 i've listed above, or if its to compete with the other 3?

Methodologies are largely checklists to help avoid overlooking anything. I don't think that one really presents a substantial advantage over the next. Personally, I use my own process, which I hone over time.
