Hi all

Simple newbie question - using mySQL under Windows, there is a default data folder, ie path\data.

How to add additional locations on say another drive on same PC?

TIA

Thanks for your response.

I'm used to being able to determine where an applications's data may be stored.

Application A may use the default mySQL path to its data, whereas it may be that it would be simpler if application B used a different drive\path on the same server.

If it is that there is only ever a single path to the data on a mySQL server, so be it?

If you were using a Unix-type system, you could probably farm out /data subdirectories to other locations by using softlinks. I don't know of anything equivalent in Windows. Hard links would not work as you are dealing with different drives.

Problem resolved - somehow an installation of phpBB had managed to create a database in the wrong folder.

It was accessible to phpBB but not to any MySQL admin tools hence the question.

Removed, then reinstalled phpBB putting database into default MySQL folder.

Thanks to guelphdad and TonyGroves for responding.
