Hi, hope someone can help me.
I'm researching problems with connecting 2 offices, where we use Netgear Gigabit routers, to be connected via a single CAT5 cable. I need to find out what kinds of data transfer problems we could have with this link (apart from being a single point of failure). I need to document the possibly of low transmission rates, interference, etc,. Also, the possibility of slow internet connection, wireless, etc, etc if you can help.
Many thanks!!!!

First, that CAT5 cable can only be 100 meters long.

Transmission rates never change. Throughput rates do. If you're within the wiring and distance specs of the routers, you're fine.

Unless you're wrapping that cable around a high-voltage power transformer, interference is generally not an issue.

One CAT5 cable? How many poeple are in these offices?

Is the ASCI diagram Correct is as to how the network topology would be set up? What internet activities are allowed from the LAN? Streaming audio/video, e-mail, web browseing, file download, or all of the above? Is there Qos setup? If there are 20 or more poeple on the left hand side of the link I would suggest mutiple connections of if possible do a fiber link. With CAT5 unless it is run in a grounded conduit you have to worry about EMF from flourecesent lights, power runs, and just about any other ac electric circuit.
