Data Integrator or DS - installable without boe cms? (SAP)

Does anyone know if SAP Data Integrator can be installed/used totally stand alone from a business object cms?
Seems like it ought to be possible, but person installing so far has not been able to figure out a way to get around request for CMS info.
(or Data Services).

I don't think so - IIRC, the CMS is used both as a repository and to schedule the ETL runs.
