Hi,

please execuse my ignorance.

We have a unix server with SAN. This is also a database server. In order to install a new soft ware we need 100gb of more database space. When you are talking about SAN, is it also for database space? Or SAN is just for filesystem and 100gb for database is something else?

Thanks,
Shine.

Disk over SAN is for any space, filesystem, Database, even RAW volumes.

Thanks for the answer.

Now another question arises. Does the output of 'df' command then include spaces allocated for database?

Shine.

The output of the df command is for displaying the filesystems. If your database volume is on a filesystem by itself then the df -k command will show you space used and free on each filesystem. You can also run the df -k /filesystem_name to find out info just on that filesystem.
