I have this problem with Maxtor 80gb D740X silent hd that files get corrupted in a strange way.
A healthy file in my hd is suddenly corrupted and then again after sometime it can be ok again.

It's like this. I download files trough ftp with sfv files. I have ftp server in my computer which does sfv checking while downloading files. Files that have passed the sfv check will not the check after a little while. So the files are corrupted after they have been checked to be ok with sfv and before i test them again with sfv checker.

This is just one example, but there are many more.. some files just corrupt after a time.
So my real question is does anyone had this same problem?
Can someone maybe help me what to do? All the diagnostic softwares i've used say that my hd is ok even maxblastII.

Oh I'm using Windows 2000 Profession SP3. This problem started to appear when my windows couldn't boot. It complained that ntkrnlos.exe was corrupted even after several reinstalls.

I hope someone can help me soon and sorry about my bad english.

Suggestions include checking memory...(and using quality memory...cheap brands exhibit strange behavior...much as you describe)
Free memtest is available here:
Do you use Windows Commander? There may be an update that will improve this.
Also some people have reported problems with Promise RAID controller causing this.

gargouille thanks a lot!!!! hugs and kisses!!!!
I really had broken memory chip a 256mb one thank god.
I am really thankfull for your reply this saved me lot of trouble and didn't have to take my hd back to warranty.

out of 325 files 0 was broken! did the sfv checking again after downloading files and with that broken memory on my machine something like 10% out of those 325 files would most likely been broken.

Thanks once again!
