Specification of the system is:

No problems observed on installation of personal edition or enterprise manager

Windows NT server version 4.0(Build 1381: Service Pack 3) memory available to Windows NT: 130,420 KB (virtual memory included), AMD K62 350mhz

Oracle Personal Edition on localhost

Currently only one database created

The problem would have to be the preferred credentials for the listener: they are currently set on password spurs, the password chosen for the repository on installation.

It would seem that I am having problems with having jobs submitted successfully.
Post installation of Enterprise Manager everything was successful in terms of automatically starting service components for the management service. After shutting down NT Server and rebooting, the management Service no longer starts automatically.
Similarly after specifying an event monitor for data gatherer service, an alert signal has been shown ever since, continually showing a red flag. Also unable to register recovery catalog with create catalog tablespace “RCVCAT” statement.

Techniques I have used for problem resolution:

1) Check the preferred credentials to ensure they are the correct username/password

2) Thoroughly read Oracle documentation to find resolution to no avail.

3) Check username on localhost to make sure the right privileges are correctly distributed e.g. log on as a batch job

Unfortunately nothing seems to work I personally feel it may be a problem with the NT Server configuration. If Logic prevails then the main task that has to be achieved is the resolution of the fact that the management server has been set to automatic and
it still needs to be started manually before starting utilising enterprise manager. I am sure this is intrinsically linked to the fact that the Data Gatherer service is showing a red flag.
