Hi,

MS VI6 must surely be the most user unfriendly package I have ever encountered! If there is a minor problem there are no hints!

My latest problem is Add new item>data form wizard>create data connection. Once I create the connection, specifying the name and location of my Access database, I just get the following unhelpful message...

"Source - Microsoft Visual InterDev

Description - The connection failed. Check your username and password, and try again"

I'm not sure what exactly that means as I'm not attempting to access a database in an environment that would require a username and password, neither is the Access database password protected.

Please can anyone help me with this?

If so, many thanks indeed!)

In this case, the error might be in the code. You might try posting the code you're using (or that was generated by VI) and we'll see if we can help from there.

And no, VI is not the most user-friendly nor user-intuitive application. Typically, I code everything by hand in VI and use it only to debug (until I can convince the powers that be that .NET is the way to go).

Dear chopstik,

Many thanks indeed for your response! I don't actually have ANY code. That's the reason I was using the "Data Form Wizard" as it generates a wheen of code for you. I need this because I'm a child when it comes to asp / vbscript programming. I have utilized the DFW before years ago and found it to be extremely useful. I wish to place an Access Database on the web and be able to manipulate it (add, delete, edit records with multiple tables).

All I have done is to "Create a new Project" in VI then right click the project and "add new item" and that is the point at which you may then add the DFW.

If you think that I may be barking up the wrong tree with this and can think of an alternative way of achieving what I wish to achieve (without being a great programmer) then I'd be grateful to hear from you again!

Once again, thanks for taking the trouble to respond.)

I've never used the wizard but I would think that it would produce some code that you could then review and tweak as needed.

Also, for helping setting up the connection string for your database, you might try and just find the db that you're using (Access, in your case).
