i used symantec ghost 6.5 to image a hard drive. i then reformatted the first hard drive and reinstalled OS and applications. then copied data from the imaged hard drive to the original. it was at this time i discovered that although all files and folders were created on the image, the data in them is corrupt. document files open up and all of them just show rows of r shaped letters. images open up blank, or give error message stating "not a valid .jpeg file". i am desperate to recover this data. any suggestions?

If you're using Win XP, then did you reformat the first HD with the same file system that it was formatted with originally, i.e., FAT 32 or NTFS?

If so, then can you successfully access the data on the imaged HD if it's installed as a Slave drive?

yes, both hard drives are formatted ntfs. and even with the imaged hard drive connected as slave, the data is corrupt. when i originally ghosted the image to hard drive 2, i rebooted and windows xp did a lengthy checkdisk, where it found many problems and corrected them. i had looked at hard drive 2 then, suspecting problems, but since all my files and directories were there, i never did think to look in them to make sure data wasn't corrupted.

When you browse the .GHO file in ghost explorer, it gives you an option to extract any file. Try extracting the files directly from ghost explorer and see if they are corrupt or not.

One way might be to reformat the original partition and do a full restore of the image to a clean partition, this might get your data back where it was and would give you time rethink your original plan.
