I bought a laptop two weeks ago and it developed a fault with the cd-rom. Before taking it back to the shop for a replacement I removed my work, deleted the partitions I created, reformatted the drive and then run the laptop system restore cd.

I'm now a little worried. If someone wanted to, is my work recoverable. I am a software developer and use my laptop to write programs and websites.

Should I be worried?

Cheers

Possible - but unlikely (and why would anyone in the shop be trying to) - you'd need to do a binary zero fill of the disk to properly wipe everything. In fact, if the restore CD works by writing a stored image to the disk, that would do it too. Even if it just overwrites, odds on it would at worst leave fragments of your original files on the disk.

Actually you can restore harddisk data after formatting and overwriting it for 7 times!!! Very handy to know if you had a bit of a disaster [smile]

But as wolluf statet you should be ok! I dont think people in the shop have either the equipment to restore your files nor the interest [smile]
