Does anybody what would happen if on a single cat 5e/6 cable the outlet end wires 1,2,3,&6 were connected to a data jack and wires 4,&5 connected to a telephone jack( or a separate data jack for connection to a telephone). At the patch panel wires 1,2,3,&6 were connected to say port 1 then to a standard switch via patching, and wires 4&5 terminated to port 2 then in turn connected to the incoming phone lines.
also if using the internet with the connections above and the phone rings, do you think data would get corrupted with the voltages needed to power the ring curcuits in the phone? these questions are being asked by building devlopers in a bid to save money, i don't recommend the practice but am unable to find major evidence to back my arguement up.

how much money could they save ? pulling two cables to a loction rather than one .

it would sseem to me the material cost would be less then the added labor of the non standard install .

(unless somebody is charging 2xlabor for two cables in which case get a few more quotes )

While highly out of standards and not recommended to do at all, it will work just as you describe. Which is why ethernet was put on pairs 1/2, 3/6 and 4/5 is used for phones.
Anyway again it will work, but if you have any choice at all DON'T DO IT! The headache created to administer such a set up would cost you far more in labor later than any preceived saving on the install.
