We've just received delivery of a Freecom DAT40i internal tape drive. It is identical in every way to Hewlet Packard's DAT40i.
I have installed the SCSI card and drive, connected them both together with the supplied SCSI lead.
I have installed the latest WinXP driver for the drive.
I have installed and run the latest version of HP Storageworks. This reports the drive to be working 100%.
However, the drive came with some software called Tapeware XE. It looks pretty straight forward. Unfortunately I want the tape drive to back up the Novell Netware-based Server that we are running and I can't see the server from within Tapeware XE, just my local machine that the tape drive is installed on.
The main root of the server is configured to "X:" on all connected PCs. Is there any way that I can use the tape drive to back up X: and all of its directories (eg: the entire network).
Installing the tape drive into the server is not an option.
There must be a way to be able to back up the network from my PC, as we used to use a HP Surestore many years ago to do that very thing.
Are we using the wrong software ?
If so is there a cheap / free alternative (as budget is very limited) ?
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Chris Marin
