DAT or SDAT.............

I have a bit of a problem.

I have EPO in my organisation and it works fine.

However, there are some client machines that will not shut down with the EPO installed such is the low spec of the machine.

Instead of relying on EPO we install the latest virus definitions via a login script.

With the size of the weekly SDAT being some 4mb + I have tried to simply install the DAT being smaller in size.

However this is were the problem arises. When I use just the DAT the application installs the DAT but VirusScan does not load ont he client machine in the system tray?

Any ideas why this is? The reason I chose to just use the DAT was because such is the age of the machines it takes an age to install the full SDAT.

I'd recommend that you run the SDAT if you're not updating these clients through epo. McAfee tends to change things around and the SDAT compensates for that. Several years ago, pre-epo; I updated DATs through the login script. One update the client virus scan all shut down. Turned out McAfee had increased the size of the definitions and needed a new engine (included in the SDAT) to read the dat files. After that time, I ran the SDAT right up until I got epo working.

Cheers. I have gone with simply running the SDAT as just running the DAT never worked!#
Unfortunatley some of the machines we are using are from the dinosaur era and take an age to perform the update!!
