I am trying to back up my server with Veritas Back Up Exec. I am using a 40 Gig DAT tape. When the program reaches, 23,484,106,042 bytes, it ejects the tape from the drive. Before, when my server only contained 22,617,000,000, it backed up fine, but now it ejects the tape. Have I reached the capacity of my tapes? What should I do? I tried to back up just specific drives and it worked just fine. I was thinking the tape can no longer hold that much data. Am I correct?

Thanks for any help.

Scott

Have you tried it with a new tape?

My first suspicion is that it is trying to put additional data on a previously used tape.

Yes, I have used brand new tapes and I have the same problem. I have also purchased a new drive, but still having the same issues.

Thanks for any help.

I also suspect that you have simply reached the capacity of the tapes. 40GB is a compressed amount of data, which will be reached in very few circumstances.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

The comments above re capacity are most likely right.
Check the compression level you are requesting in the backup operation. You should also be able to check remaining capacity on old successful tapes.
If you read the small print on DAT drives they all advertised their capacity assuming 50% compression.

Put in another tape and allow the job to complete. Find files that can be deleted if you want to stay on just one tape.
