Hi, guys.
I was just recently at a southern california CompUSA store the other day where I saw a boxed set of this DARKBasic software. Three years ago when I first reviewed it, my first reaction was "God, how awful!" (This reaction was of course compared to my liking of C++ Builder and Visual Basic. The demos on there ran pretty slow (I was running a 200 Mhz at the time, a couple weeks later, a friend let me try it on his 1.7 Ghz machine, and the demos still ran slow).
I forget what version I purchased, but I'm questioning what progress the DarkBASIC team has made since then.

Hi,
First off the current DB is v1.13, which fixes bugs & has several advantages over the original release such as 3rd party DLL support.

Since then DB software seem to be concentrating on Dark Basic Professional, which has several major improvements over plain DB, including:
1. More advanced 3D rendering methods & support for pixel & vertex shading techniques, e.g. bump mapping.
2. Compilation to machine code EXEs (vs. interpreted EXEs)
3. Much better windows primary editor IDE.

I think numbers 1 & 2 make for significantly faster & more efficient program execution.

check DB vs. DBpro comparison at:

Incidentally, I've only used Dark Basic v1.13 - I'm considering buying Blitz 3D rather than DB pro because it seems far neater syntactically & more OOP programmer friendly (effectively allows access to pointers to objects):
