I have a Sony Multiscan 200sx with dark patches on the screen. The patches are not really dark, just areas of lower luminosity than the rest of the screen. The monitor is still usable, it is just really annoying to scroll text through these dark regions. It looks like the image is kind of going behind a cloud, then gets brighter when it is out of the dark patch. Weird.

I have degaused the monitor, with no change.

What the heck causes this? Is it screen burn? I bought the monitor used.

I had gotten a Sceptre monitor that came with dark spots on it, exactly as you describe - I sent it back to them, they claim it was damaged in shipping and that there is no way to repair the kind of damage that was done. I don't know if they are lying or what, but that was the result, and fixing the monitor through them would have been about twice as much as I payed for the darn thing in the first place! (They told me somewhere around $250 when I payed just $160 for it originally)
