Hi there,

I've been having problems with the backups. I have about 7 or 8 servers that need to be backed up daily. Ever since I started (yeah i'm bad luck) the backups have been failing.

For one of the servers it doesn't even connect it gives this error:

Error 8533

8533 Request denied by the client agent. User or password is invalid.

Module:

Backup Agent

Reason:

The Client Agent has rejected the access request from BrightStor ARCserve Backup because the user account or password is incorrect. ok well we read this and we are 100% it is using the correct user account and password. I am not sure how I can verify this other then going to Source tree, finding the server, right click and security.

Next server it tries to connect to I get this error:

Error 8604
8604 Failed to start backup. (DBNAME=object name, EC=error message/code)

Module: Backup Agent

Reason: The backup may have failed to start for a number of reasons. we are 100% positive the login for the server is correct for the backup. I also installed the sql agent not to long ago, thinking that would help as well.

Then at the end I get a WARNING : W0 BAOF Operation disabled. What the heck does that mean? No one disabled it?

I am using BrightStore Arcserve Backup Version 9.0 (Build 2020)
The server its running on is a WIN2k svc pak 4
All the other servers are running same that have the agents installed.

Can anyone help me figure this one out because I'm sick of these backups failing.[sadeyes]

Thank you! [peace]

I am not sure how I can verify this other then going to Source tree, finding the server, right click and security.

Doing that will only verify that the username and password you are using are correct at the moment you are browsing the server. You need to make sure the job has the correct username and password packaged. It saves these credentials from when the job was created. If the credentials are wrong or you change the password you need to modify the job and set the credentials accordingly.

we are 100% positive the login for the server is correct for the backup. I also installed the sql agent not to long ago, thinking that would help as well.

If you are trying to backup SQL you will need the agent. This error can be caused by a number of user errors. Please post the complete error message from your activity log. Also tell us what type of authentication you are using in SQL and the account you specified in your backup job.

i had this same error message when trying to do a disaster recovery restore and i was using the account and password i set up but when i tried to connect to the client agent i received an error. Turns out i had to go into the client agent on the server i was trying to restore go into options click on configuration and then click password security. type in the password for the account you are using and then save it. Then try your restore... hopefully it works for you or the next person who has this problem it worked for me.
