Someone just sent me a Damn Small Linux (DSL) live CD and I fired it up on a junkbox machine (650mhz Athlon, 64MB ram), and it's pretty sweet - GUI and usable applications, can fit on a biz card cd (50MB).

Download or purchase from:
Only my opinion, just thought I'd share.

I've used it and it's good. If you like that one take a look at puppy linux. I've got it running on a fanless mini-itx board from a thumb drive.

I use DSL on a 64MB USB Jump Drive to boot to. FAR better than carrying around a cd (knoppix) or floppy (tomx Rootboot), plus, then I have all the tools and scripts I need for what I am booting to it for.

The other day, I had a user screw around and change /etc/inittab to boot to runlevel 6. Without that little USB drive, I would have killed him. However, I just jumped in with that and changed it. Perfect tool!
