Hey everyone,

I have a P4 3Ghz 512Mb RAM Dell Machine from UK. it has a 250Gb Maxtor HD. I have had it for about 8 months and built a rather large music collection nearly 3000 songs, Had a problem with it last week and Dell told me they have to replace hard drive because its damaged, is there any way they can get my songs back if the hard drive is broken?

More than likely, they will just put in a new drive and put it back into the way it was when new, and ship it back to you. You can ask, but they will say "Sorry, you should have made backups". I take it that they already have your system? If you still have it, let us know before you ship it to them.

Keane16,

You could try to rescue your data off of the Maxtor drive before you send it back, if you still have it.

Every Maxtor drive I've ever had has gone bad, either under warranty, or just after it ran out. Other people seem to love them, but I've had nothing but problems with their products.

In defence of maxtor, i disagree. I have some 10 yr old maxtor hard drives that work fine and i am using a maxtor 80 and 60 gig h drive in my current system, along with a Samsung and a Western digital, been running fine for years.
I am not a great maxtor fan, i use western digital, samsung, seagate, etc. The only hard drives i stay away from are the IBM deckstars as a lot of people call them deathstars. I like Samsung and Seagate the best, but there is nothing wrong with Maxtor either.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips

We still haven't heard whether you still have the drive, or did you already ship it?
