Daily Incremental Backup failure

Hi;

(NT 4, BE 7.3, 10GB uncompresed Tape)

We are having an issue with our daily incremental backups where they fail because BE claims it cannot append to media.

This is strange because our overwrite period is one week and the append period is infinite. If I understand this correctly, within the overwrite period, it will seek to append first. Generally the dailies do not exceed 1.5GB, so I'm sure we are not running out of tape. Also, this happens *every* weekday. Our weekly full backups generally do NOT fail.

Part of what is strange is that the job monitor displays the failed incremental in red, while still showing a backup size of .9 to 1.5 GB. If it fails, shouldn't this read zero?

Another issue we have is that we cannot seem to refresh the tape when we swap them out. Right clicking on the media and selecting refresh generates no action.

If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful. Also, I would be able to keep more of the hair I am pulling out :)

Thank You;

Neil

Hi Neil. I can offer one little bit of information. I have backups fail and are listed in red but if you right click the red text and choose Properties and then the Log File tab, you can go through the report on the backup and see what actually failed. I have backups fail and when I check, it says: OFO: Unable to get minimum quiet time ..and.. OFO: Initialisation failure on C:The backup itself is fine and I have restored a file that was backed up during a failed backup.
I have similar problems to those you have listed and will be very interested to see if anyone can help.
