We've had a daily backup configured for a while now, and it's been running successfully, but the past three days, it's been failing. In the logs, there's this error note at the end:

Storage device "Sony 1" reported an error on a request to seek to a logical media address.
Error Reported:
No more data is on the tape.

At first we thought that the tape was full, since it's a 35 Gb rating, and the amount of data that its backing up was around 52 Gb. We reset the daily job definition to set a shorter range of history (thus lowering the total amount of backup files), it shrunk the size of the backup to 30 Gb, but the same failure occured. Yesterday, I cycled the power to the drives (we have two drives, the second used for weekly backups).

Obviously, we've used three different tapes, oh, the machine is running Windows 2000 Server (sp2), 512 Mb RAM, and the backup version is 8.60 rev. 3808.

Another note, the backups were running approximately 6 1/2 to 7 hours when completing successfully, the first time it failed, it took about 4 hours, but still backed up 51 Gb. The next two times, it took 2:20 to back up 30 Gb.

There is a chance that the settings for the job set-up was changed, our network guy normally takes care of the backup configurations, and he changed our Wednesday weekly backup settings recently. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Howard
