Not exactly. T1 uses "robbed-bit" signaling. Also, each channel has some signaling in each byte, which is why T1 can't do "clearchannel" 64kbps (where all the signaling is moved out-of-band, to channel 24).
chelseagroup,
There are certain Dial Tone providers that 'claim' to be able to provide caller-id (ani in the T1 world), though I have failed to see one work properly. Normally, caller id can only be provided over a loop start line (not ground start) however, when programming for a T1 (whether robbed-bit or common channel) AVAYA recommends that the channels be ground start (for good reason, I might add...loop start channels have a serious problem with C.O. disconnect). The best solution, albeit a more expensive one, is to provision the T1 as a PRI.
I think I am having the same problem. When we call someone with callerid, our number/name does not appear. Before we switched T1 providers the callerird information was passed. Am I yelling at our new provider for nothing then?!
We have a Merlin Legend with a D100 card. I was told our system can not accept a PRI T1. Is this true?

The Legend Does support PRI You can set them up as call ba call with DNIS digits and its like DID trunks with caller ID, But since it is a PRI You only can the Number
Hmm… Prior to switching to our new provider, all in bound calls where being sent to the auto attendant by default. After switching, we had to set up the auto attendant with the last 3 digits of the 5 different phone numbers going to that T1. This is the DNIS digits that was being sent to us, right?
My question is, why is our provider having a hard time passing callerID information? The funny thing is, when I call our provider (non 800 number), the callerID is passed and they know who we are. But when I call my cell phone or home, “Unavailable” is displayed.
I am not sure if the rest of this thread was talking about receiving the callerID information to display it on the phone’s displays. We don’t want that. We want the people we are calling to know it is us and not some telemarketing company.
