Hi all.
I'm trying to get this DSL modem to work with my PPPoA connection and so far I had no luck.
This modem along with a Netgear FR314 (that's another problem which I posted on the Security forum) is supposed to replace an Alcatel Speedtouch USB that works fine in my system (I'm running Win2K Pro SP3). At the moment, I have the Netgear offline and connect the modem to the Uplink of a Linksys hub.
1) My DSL-300 (firmware 1.14 and Config utility 1.12) allows me to set VPI/VCI but not framing. I need to set the framing to VCMUX (it now shows as LLC/SNAP and it's not modifiable).
This seems to be the only difference from my working Speedtouch USB and, hopefully, with this I might be able to connect to my ISP using PPPoA.
I didn't have a response from D-Link yet.
I found some later versions of the DSL-300 firmware (r2) but they don't install on the modem (perpetual looping). Also a later version of the Configuration that allows framing modifications, doesn't work either. It pops a timeout box continuously.
2) The modem has an IP of 192.168.1.1 whereas my network is in the 192.168.0.x range. This makes the modem invisible for pinging, telnet and who knows what else. Only its configuration program finds it right away.
Shouldn't I change it to something like 192.168.0.99?
If yes, how do I go about it?
I browsed the modem with Hyperterminal but I couldn't find any commands that allow the IP change (or the framing change for that matter).
Any ideas on that? Alternatively, is there some place that carries later releases of firmware/configuration programs?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
