Is anyone using cycle counting in GP?

I need to know if anyone has got it to work for them and how. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me.

I want to setup a stock count schedule with all items in a warehouse, each of which has a different next count date based on the cycle count options.

I want to be prompted to only count those items that are due to be counted on that day. It seems that once a Start Count is initiated the system expects you to count everything on the schedule irrespective of the next count dates for each item.

Am I missing something??

Go to Stock Count Schedule (Transactions|Inventory|Stock Count Schedule)

Enter a Stock Count ID (I usually use the date of the count ie. 06102005)

If you use a single site enter that site in the Default Site ID location.

Select Mass Add

It should be defaulted to Next Stock Count Date, just enter the date that you would like to cycle count.

I did all of this but once I do the start count it expects everything on the schedule to be counted, even those that are not due to be counted.

You need to set the number of days in your stock calendar. If you have 4800 inventory items and want to count approx 60 items a day, your stock calendar would be set up as 80 days excluding Sat and Sun.

Then after every 4 months or so, you would start again at the first time, which would have had it's next stock count date updated after the last count.

It's a good idea to re-do the schedule after the 80 days to pick up any new items that have been added, and this will also recalculate the stock count schedule if any days were missed.

Thanks!

I don't see where to set the number of days for the calendar. All that is on this screen is the number of shifts, hours per shift, down days etc. Currently Sat & Sun as well as all public holidays are set as down days.

I guess I'm trying to find if there is some other way than doing a schedule for each day. This just seems impractical , especially when we only want to count a few items each day.

Sorry about that.

use Cards > Inventory > Count Cycle Assign

Thanks!

Thanks Barbola, but I've already done that too.

I don't think this feature works the way I need it to. Once the item is on the schedule whether it is due or not and the start count has been issued, you are expected to count the item.

There seems to be no way around this.

Are you using the Mass Add feature and selecting your ranges properly? You need to insert the "next count date" field to indicate that you only want to mass add the items that have that specific date as the Next Count Date.

Also make sure you select any other ranges such as inventory site, item class, as required.

Thanks!

Yeah, I did select Mass Add. This still does not solve my issue though: what I need is 1 schedule with all my items on it. Each item will have a different cycle count. Then when I select to start count I only want those items that are due on that date to be counted - so each day I count a few items on the schedule and the dates on the items already counted are updated with the next count based on the interval set.

The Stock Count Schedule is a daily routine. It is to be used each time you want to do a stock count. You would create a new stock count schedule every day. Do not check Reuse Stock Count.

Your schedule would only include items to be counted that day as indicated when you mass add the items with that days' date as the Next Stock Count Date.

After the item for that day is added, click on Start Count. It will print a Stock Count Exception List where you select to print OnHand quantities. It will print a Stock Count Form for you to fill in the hand-counted quantities.

Save the Stock Count and go to Transactions >Inventory > Stock Count Entry. Pull up your stock count ID. Enter in your counted quantity, make sure you check Unposted Trx to see if any quantities are allocated on invoices.

As you enter each amount, the Verified box is checked. Once you are finished, click Process. AgGain, a stock count exception report will print. Click Autopost Stock Count variance to post the journal entry and inventory adjustment.

Thanks!

Thanks for clearing that up. I had hoped that I could get it to work my way since my users will be the ones having to build the schedule on a daily basis.

Better luck next time I guess. Thanks again.
