I'm new to the linux desktop world...or at least new to really trying a full fledged windows replacement. I set up my wife's laptop with Ubuntu. She isn't technically savvy, but has adapated well to the new OS, and is able to do most all that she wants.

I however have been struggling to figure out the equivalent of the programming tools that I use on my Windows machine. I installed gcvs on Ubuntu, but I can't figure out how it works. I use TortoiseCVS on my windows machine, and I love how easy it is to use. Is there an equivalent on linux?

Maybe I have the correct tool already and I don't know how to use it? or maybe I need a different tool.

Looking forwared to your help,
Thanks.

For more info, you can type "man cvs" or "info cvs" to bring up the manual on cvs.

I wish. Sorry, but no, there's nothing like that on Linux. You'll just have to make due with the command-line client or pick the graphical client that is the least painful for you to use. I usually stick to the command-line client, myself, since I find most other GUI clients to be unpleasant and/or unreliable.

Can someone point me in the direction of a good tutorial for the command line client? I found a lot of tutorials on setting up CVS on your local machine, and I find most man pages way to overloaded with information to be useful for learning a new command.

I've already set CVS on a server and been using ssh with TortoiseCVS for a couple of years. I just need to connect and checkout modules....I don't need to set up or install the CVS server on a local machine.

Must admit, I've been using Eclipse to do all my CVS client work recently. Don't need to bother about the command line at all, it's all GUI based.
