CVLAN, IP MEDIA, MAPD ???

Can someone explain to me these cards functions? and how they interrelate?

The MAPD card comes out amphenal to three RJ45plugs. Are these ethernet connections?

The IPMEDIA goes amphenal to RS232 and 1 RJ45 plug.

The C-LAN card goes amphenal to 8 RJ45 plugs.


And finally what is the difference between a CLAN and a CVLAN card?

Appreciate anyone who can help educate me on these.

This information is pretty well laid out in the Avaya Definity Systems Release 10 Library documents; System Description, ECS Overview, Administrator's Guide, etc., including internal hot links that map you directly to the sections/paragraphs that explain the cards, their interrelationships, and role in the architecture. In a nut shell the IPMedia card (medpro) is used for connecting VoIP calls to the TDM bus or for compressing and uncompressing between IP codecs. An example would be a 4612 (IP hardphone) calling an 6408d - you get the Picture.

CLAN is used for IP links in to the Processor - replacing data modules. For example BCMS Vu/Intuity/SAT can all be done via a IP link to the CLAN card. VoIP devices use the CLAN for the a data link back to the Processor - call setup etc. You can get a IP hard phone working on a system with a CLAN, without a MedPro you can't hear anything....

The MAPD is used for CTI links to the Definity. Centre Vu telephoney Services etc. it was also used as IP/TDM converter before the IPMedia/Medpro was developed.
