Cutting Out Part Of A Path

Okay, this is kind of hard to explain but I'll do my best. I have one path. It's a solid yellow circle. I have another path placed over the first one. It's a smaller circle, but I made it white to give the illusion of a yellow "O" shape... However, I don't want to keep it like this (having one item on top of another). I want to cut a "hole" in the yellow circle in the shape of the white circle, so that it's just one yellow "O". How can I cut a hole in the yellow circle in the exact shape of the white circle?
 
Select both circles and goto "Object>Compound Path>Make"
