Be very careful if you decide to cut and paste from any of the rcX.d directories. I had a paste go back to the original screen instead of my email screen and the --> part representing the link was interpreted as a redirect of /dev/null and wiped out half of my /sbin/init.d directory. The recovery was ugly since the backups were half a continent away.

Cutting and Pasting from the rc directories

I echo Maria's comments, but be careful about cutting and pasting commands anywhere - I've set off the nightly backup before just trying to amend the script. As someone said, 'Think twice, press return (or mouse button) once'.
